Shocking video emerged today showing a dazed and confused tiger being smacked in the head with sticks while being forced to pose for photographs with tourists.

The tiger, which appears to have been drugged, is seen slumped on a table as excited parents and children queue up to sit next to the endangered animal.

To ensure it keeps facing the camera, two men armed with white sticks bash it in the face and neck.

It is not clear where or when the video was taken or who is organising the photographs, which are very likely to have been laid on for financial gain.

But in a posting on liveleak.com, where the footage was uploaded, it claims to have taken place in the popular beach resort of Beidaihe in the Chinese city of Qinhuangdao, possibly at a zoo.

One commenter said: ‘I was seriously hoping this video would end with one of those two guys mauled.’

Emergence of the video comes just days after terrified lions were pelted with snowballs by by laughing visitors, including children, at Hangzhou Zoo in Zhejiang Province, eastern China.

In January last year, the Chinese government banned zoos from putting on cruel animal performances after increased pressure from outraged animal rights groups.

A study by Animals Asia in 2010 found bears were often whipped and beaten with sticks, elephants were prodded with metal hooks, while tigers and lions were made to endure chronic pain by being defanged and declawed.

But months after the ban came into force, some zoos were found to still be flouting the law.

cubs.The department kept a close watch to save precious cubs from infanticide.An official in the forest department said,Whenever such takeovers take place,the new lion definitely attacks the young ones if they hinder him from mating with a lioness.The newborns do not leave their mother in the initial months and are at great risk of infanticide.
This trait is common throughout Gir,amid the angry roars of lions thrown out of their territory unceremoniously.At Billiwadi Kundi,this played out.
The lion who rules the territory in the eco-tourism zone of Gir had gone out.The area was invaded by a nomad who grabbed a female in the area.The female had three cubs which were less than a month old and hence we kept a constant watch on the takeover.This forced coupling was a danger for cubs,as they suddenly became unprotected, said Deputy Conservator of Forests,Sandeep Kumar.
He said that during the initial fight between the nomad and the mother,the cubs took shelter at a safe distance.Forest officials and ground staff kept close watch on these cubs.He further said that lions normally mate for 4-5 days straight,and the lioness didnt even attempts to locate her cubs during this.Finally,after the nomad left smelling a return and attack by the king of the area the female returned to her cubs after a three-day search.
Due to effective monitoring and observation these three little lion cubs could be saved, said Kumar.
He further said that the beat guards and the forest officials are now constantly keeping an eye on such territory invasions which are a routine affair in the first three months of the year.

The incredible pictures were taken by photographer Mohammed Alnaser, 34, in the Londolozi Private Game Reserve in Sabi Sands, South Africa.

He said: ‘Our ranger was informed about those mating leopards while we were taking photos of a pride of lions nearby so we rushed into the scene but it seemed that they were having a rest by the time we arrived, so it took us around another 30 minutes before they started mating again.

‘The male is quite young and ‘inexperienced’ as the ranger is quite familiar with both the male and female and we were told that he wasn’t doing it right as he kept on jumping around being very careful with the female’s reaction.

‘It was the first time in my life to see mating leopard and it was very intense and interesting as we spent time watching them as they mated around five or seven times in our presence.’

This is the hilarious moment an angry lioness launched herself at a huge lion – but ended up sitting on his head.

This grumpy mum wasn’t best pleased when the lion tried to try to tame her cubs – and pounced straight at the enormous beast.

But she obviously misjudged her distance – as she ended up sitting on top of the lion’s mane like a hat – before falling to the ground below.

Wildlife park ranger Jacques Matthysen captured the comic moment on camera, as he patrolled the South African plains.

Jacques said: ‘We had gone out to try and photograph some lions, and were met by a very playful pride of seven Lions.

‘The four year old male Lion was playing with three young cubs – or rather, they were tormenting him, since all he wanted to do was have a rest.

‘The older male and a female were walking 20 metres from us, rubbing their heads every couple of seconds showing affection.

‘While watching them the other female appeared from the thicket. As soon as the 4 year old male saw the female, which is the mother of the cubs he was knocking over every now and again, he jumped up and jogged towards her.

‘It looked like she was just waiting for the right moment. She stood still until the last second.

The male lion paid little attention to the incident and strolled on after the mother fell to the ground

‘As he was half a meter away, she pounced on him. She did loose her grip though and quickly fell to the other side of him.

‘With the female at his paws on the ground he just glanced down, as though to say: ‘Was that it?’.

‘He just kept on walking past her and us sitting in the Cruiser, and lay down to rest close to a thicket behind us.

‘The cubs quickly saw the opportunity of mum laying on her side, ran towards her and started suckling.’

A zoo where keepers killed animals using baseball bats and crowbars – in a bid to save on veterinary fees – has now been accused of feeding parts of the dead creatures to Polish guest workers.

Former employees at the park revealed the horrific living conditions of the animals at Ölands Animal and Amusement Park in Sweden earlier this week, but now it seems the atrocious treatment extend to the staff as well.

Employees at the popular tourist attraction were forced to work under ‘slave like’ conditions and were fed goats, hens and even a pig that had been put down at the park.

One worker, identified as Anna, said: ‘Sometimes we would give the animals a small injection afterwards. If there was an inspection no one would notice that they had been put down the wrong way. They often kill goats with a simple knife to the throat.’

Guest workers from Poland and Bulgaria work in the zoo over the summer and live in cramped conditions close to the park, located on the popular tourist island in the Baltic sea.

Animal carer Mats told Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet: ‘People say the animals are treated badly, but if they only knew what the situation is like for the employees.

‘The guest staff work under slave-like conditions, 12 hours a day, seven days a week, with no entitlement to sick leave or days off. Those who complain have to take the return bus back home.’

Food is included in the contract and Niclas, another former employee, revealed that the guest workers were fed animals that had been put down in the park, giving examples of a goat and hens.

He reveals he once butchered a pig at the zoo to give the workers meat, adding: ‘They were so hungry and hadn’t had any nutritious food for weeks.’

Anna added: ‘They often had to eat monkey food. Old bread and old fruit which had been donated to the park by local grocers on the island, or nearby Kalmar on the mainland.’

The stories from behind the cheery facade of the zoo, which welcomes visitors with a sign of two playing chimpanzees, has horrified and sickened the nation and animal lovers worldwide.

On Wednesday Pia Westen, 19, revealed that the park had refused to let carers bottle feed a litter of lion cubs ignored by their mother.

Staff were ordered to hide the suffering lion cubs behind tarpaulin sheets, with Westen saying: ‘[Supervisors] didn’t want visitors seeing them lying there, dying. The animal caretakers really wanted to save them but they weren’t allowed until two of them had starved to death.’

Caroline Ryding worked at the park for two months in 2011 and claims she quit her job after witnessing ‘permanent maltreatment of the animals’.

She said: ‘A coati – a Brazilian aardvark – was beaten to death with a baseball bat or a crowbar. And we were told afterwards not to tell the zoo vet.’

‘They had no room for them and couldn’t afford a vet. The owners told us not to say anything because what they did was illegal.’

Last year the company made a £1.2m profit and the park’s director Barbro Hägg has been given an estimated £2.4m in salary and shares in the past five years.

Zoo spokesman Hans Uhrus claimed the care was of high standard and that the zoo was regularly checked by vets and the County Administration Board.

He said: ‘We always take great care in dealing with our animals. We have regular controls of our business under the animal protection act through inspections. The board has received no complaints regarding the park.’

This claim was backed up by the park’s veterinarian Karl Johan Nordfelt.

He said: ‘As the park’s veterinary surgeon I visit the park at least once a week to see the animals and how they are kept.

‘The animals’ well-being is checked every day by the staff on site and I control how they are kept during my regular visits.

‘I have nothing to comment on regarding the care of the animals in the park.’

The animal park, on the Baltic island of Öland, off Sweden’s east coast, is home to around 650 animals of over 100 different species.
