August 31, cheetah conservation day, is the reminiscent of the glorious past, great ambitions and respectability of Iranians. It reminds us that Iran is the only country in the ancient continent that successfully saved the last remnants of Asiatic cheetah and it reminds us the promise we made to conserve them. This day reminds us the great responsibility we have in saving this natural heritage in front of God almighty and humankind. We promised to join hands and cooperate to conserve the cheetahs. We believe that Asiatic cheetah’s greatest threat is lack of suitable public knowledge, therefore we witness people kill cheetah and its habitat defragmented by constructional activities such as roads and mining and also livestock overgrazing. So our second greatest mission, after the conservation of cheetah’s habitats, is to spread awareness about cheetahs. We also promise to:
1- Do not hunt in Cheetah’s habitat at all.
2- Resist against Cheetah’s habitat destruction in every position and job we are.
3- Help the environment’s guards, who are the frontline troops, in conserving the protected areas.
4- Report observing cheetah, anywhere in Iran, to environment offices.
5- Increase our knowledge about cheetah and convey it to others, either orally or by using whatever media we have access to.
6- Follow the news about cheetah and inform the others
7- Teach our children the importance of conserving cheetah and other natural heritage of our country.
We are sure that together, either individuals or groups( public or private), young or old, apply all of our efforts in conserving cheetah , we are going to be successful in the eyes of our children and people of the world. We hope that one day the population of cheetah increases and it removes from this critical condition so that we could proudly claim cheetah as a precious natural heritage of Iran.
