While we never consider ourselves as masters in identifying Tigers of Ranthambhore, we were appalled by the poor attitude of the concerned officials. If the park management fails to identify their own Tigers, God save them.
There could be a few possibilities on Sultan’s disappearance:
1) Ever since his mother forced him out of her territory so she could produce another litter, Sultan had been trying hard to fend for himself.
2) If he has wandered into adjoining areas which already have dominant Males, Sultan wouldn’t stand a chance to fend them off and might get killed in a territorial fight.
3) If he has wandered into the periphery of the park (surrounded by villages), he might look for easy prey and kill cattle which could snowball into a major menace to villagers and he could be prone to revenge killing.
4) Poaching can be ruled out at this stage since areas around his mother’s territory isn’t as prone to the menace as a few other areas.
We truly wish & hope Sultan is safe & sound somewhere out there in the wilderness. We shall keep you updated on this…………….
