One essential matter our foundation keeps on fighting for is the fact that too many cubs/kittens are being taken away from their mothers soon after birth, leaving a distressed mother searching for her babies for a long time after, which is heartbreaking! There’s just a handfull of mothers who cannot raise their own babies…..and strange enough these mothers always live at the same kind of projects and breeding farms. Mothermilk and care is best for the health to start with and the way it should be acc to laws of nature!
The biggest threat is the support by tourists, volunteers…and other people who love cuddling with the fluffy cubs. They go from hand to hand, people they don’t know and who lots of times don’t know what their needs are…but these people paid for this. They paid to cuddle with the cubs/kittens, and by doing so they support the business with excessive breeding of the species (lions, tigers, cheetahs, servals, leopards, caracals…..etc. etc.), taking them from the mother to tame them and the lot will end up being sold to the wrong places where they are (canned) hunted, or not treated the way they should be. Of course we understand it is nice to socialise with the wild cats, big and small, but to pay for this and support this kind of exploit, is no good for the welfare of the cats and it has no value whatsoever to the species in the wild. A project can have ambassadors to show the people, and help raise awareness for their species, but why the cuddling, walking, bottle-feed session with only one mission: earn as much money as possible. Greed and exploit is NO conservation. And don’t believe when you are told the money from this goes into conservation, as it doesn’t!!!!!The young animals should be of equal value when they are getting mature, and finally getting old and weak…..to us they are as equally important, every phase of a life has its charm!! Of course there’s a lot of examples of good caretakers that bond with their animals, but that is a different story….it is a mutual bond and it doesn’t exist only of cuddling cubs, but bonding for life! Please share this post as much as possible, to make people aware. If they still want to support this…..they have to live with it!
